Today’s the last trading day for the month of June. So we could see portfolio traders rebalancing their portfolios.

Moving to the US

The S&P 500 index closed at an all time high of 6173.07 basis points  on Friday, driven by news of the US and China reaching a trade deal. The index ended the week up  3.4%

The NASDAQ composite gained 4.3%

The Dow gained 3.4%

It was a pretty thin week in terms of earnings. Most prominent names i recall where  Carnival Cruise, General Mills, Fedex and Nike.

Popped into Fedex and Nike earnings calls.

Fedex numbers came in better than analyst estimates

  • Earnings per share: $6.07 adjusted vs. $5.84 expected
  • Revenue: $22.22 billion vs. $21.79 billion expected

Key point for me for the Fedex call was management being able to bring down capital expenditure to an extremely low level. One of the lowest in the last few years and increasing resources to Asian trade routes. As expected, China-US volumes are soft.

Nike numbers came in better than analyst estimates.

$11 billion in revenue and 14 cents in earnings per share

Analysts were expecting $10.72 billion in revenue and 13 cents in earnings per share.

Management sounded upbeat on the call. The stock closed Friday up 15%, its best gain in 2 years.

Nvidia regained the spot of the biggest stock by market cap in the world.

What’s happening this week?

Earnings wise, its a sparse calendar.

Robinhood has a crypto event scheduled for today. If the momentum in Nvidia continues this week, it could make history by being the first company in the world to hit a N4 trillion market cap.

Labor market numbers will be out on Thursday.
